Brno beat Hradec Králové to climb to second place in the Czech league

In a rescheduled Round 4 fixture of the Czech football league, Brno's Zbrojovka beat Hradec Králové 1:0 at home, moving up to second place in the standings. The match was originally set for August 16 but was postponed due to Hradec's involvement in European qualifying rounds.

The first half was cautious and short on genuine chances. Both sides looked for openings, but few real opportunities materialized. Hradec came closest early on, when a sloppy back-pass from Ševčík let Trubač through on goal, only for Brno keeper Grdina to save his shot — and then deny Dancák's follow-up as well.

A decisive moment early in the second half

Right after the break, Hradec squandered a golden chance of their own: following a precise cross from Van Buren on the right flank, a completely unmarked Slončík fired from close range but missed by mere centimeters.

The match's turning point came in the 60th minute. Burundian forward Kanakimana caught the visitors' defense off guard with a clever low cross from the right, and an unmarked Vašulín had no trouble tapping it home. It was the striker's fourth league goal of the season, putting him level with Slavia Prague's Chytil–Novák duo on that count.

Hradec coach Horejš, who once played for Zbrojovka himself, made three substitutions in an attempt to spark his side's attack. Substitute Vlkanova was particularly lively with his crosses, but Brno's solid defense held firm. In the closing stages, the visitors pinned the hosts back, yet it never amounted to more than a few dangerous deliveries and half-chances — no clear-cut opportunity ever came.

Home form and the stats

The win over Hradec was Zbrojovka's first head-to-head victory over the club in five meetings. This season, Brno have won three of their four home games, collecting 9 points out of a possible 13 — the best home record in the league. Hradec Králové, meanwhile, have now gone six straight away matches without a win.

Following the result, Zbrojovka Brno sit second in the table with 13 points, trailing league leaders Slavia Prague only on goal difference. Hradec Králové, with 7 points, are tenth.
