Electric cars overtake hybrids on Czechia's used-car market

Electric cars overtake hybrids on Czechia

Used electric cars are rapidly gaining popularity in Czechia: in the first eight months of 2025, 16,148 units were sold — 92% more than in the same period last year. That's according to Petr Vaněček, director of Aures Holdings, which operates the AAA Auto and Mototechna car dealership networks.

As recently as last year, hybrids were the stronger sellers on the secondary market. Their sales grew too this year — by 30%, to 12,733 vehicles — but that wasn't enough to keep pace with fully electric cars, which pulled ahead by roughly three and a half thousand units sold. The figures cover the entire Czech used-car market.

Prices hold steady

Electric car sales doubled without a sharp jump in prices — they rose just 3.1%, only slightly above overall economic inflation. On average, a used electric car cost 702,000 crowns this year. The average mileage of these vehicles crept up slightly to 66,000 kilometres, while the average age actually dropped, from five years to four.

"In-demand electric cars disappear from listings within a few weeks — supply is limited," Vaněček noted.

Best-sellers and newcomers

As was the case a year ago, the Tesla Model 3 remains the best-selling model on the entire market, though the Škoda Enyaq has closed in right behind it. The Volkswagen ID.4 rounds out the top three.

The new Škoda Elroq has also started appearing on the secondary market: 167 nearly new units, averaging under a year old, sold in just 23 days on average.

Data from the classifieds portal Sauto.cz confirms the trend. According to data analyst Štěpán Matějka, in the first half of the year the number of electric cars listed in the passenger-car category on the portal was 46% higher than a year earlier, while the number of hybrids rose by 32%. Among electric cars on Sauto.cz, Škoda and Volkswagen together lead the pack, with Tesla in third place.
