New "Švestka" Kindergarten Opens in Prague 13's British Quarter

The Prague 13 municipal district has opened a new nursery school called "Švestka" in the British Quarter, located in the rapidly growing area of Stodůlky and Západní Město (Western Town). According to the district administration, the kindergarten is designed for six groups and features its own bathroom facilities, a modern kitchen, and a spacious courtyard with play areas. In the first phase, three groups have opened, admitting 66 children.

The kindergarten is run directly by Prague 13 rather than a private operator. District representative Steinerová noted that parents pay the standard municipal fee for attendance — which, she said, makes it the lowest kindergarten fee in Prague.

A joint project between the district and a developer

The kindergarten building was constructed by the FINEP company as part of its development obligations for the area, after which the facility was handed over to the district for operation. The city administration, in turn, fully equipped the school and prepared it for opening, investing around 5 million crowns in furnishings and equipment.

District mayor Vodrážka stated that the opening of another modern kindergarten is especially important for local families: the district deliberately took over management of the facility to keep fees affordable — in line with the district's other municipal kindergartens.

Deputy mayor Plesňová called "Švestka" a successful example of cooperation between the municipality and a private investor: children get a high-quality, modern environment, while parents can count on affordable tuition. Michal Kocián, chairman of the board at FINEP, added that Západní Město remains a key development area for the company, which is keen to see affordable services emerge there for residents.
