The search for an exotic cat — a serval — has come to an end in the Bystrc district of Brno. The animal had escaped from its owners and evaded capture for nearly a week, prompting a joint search effort by municipal police, state police and firefighters since Sunday.
According to Jakub Hanem, spokesman for the Brno municipal police, the owners spotted the serval on Friday morning right there in Bystrc — not far from where it had originally escaped. After six days on the run, the animal was clearly terrified and had climbed into the crown of a tree, refusing to come down.
Since the cat had perched too high up, municipal officers had to call in the fire brigade for help. Firefighters used a ladder to bring the serval down and handed it over to its owner, who was waiting below with a carrier.
Hanem noted that after what were evidently a tough six days on the loose, the animal was not in the best condition. The young owner immediately took the cat to a vet for a check-up. The family has asked that no further details of the story be shared.
