Tourist falls from bridge in Šumava while her partner was taking her photo

A tourist fell around five metres from a bridge linking the villages of Rejštejn and Klášterský Mlýn in the Šumava mountains while her partner was photographing her, police spokeswoman Iva Vršecká reported.

According to police, the woman had gone for a walk with her partner, who was taking pictures of her. At that moment a car drove onto the bridge, the tourist got startled, stumbled and fell through the railing.

Her partner immediately called the emergency services. Luboš Bouček, a spokesman for the regional ambulance service, said the 57-year-old woman fell from a height of about five metres. "She suffered potentially serious injuries to her chest and spine," he said.

The injured woman was flown by helicopter to the emergency department of the Pilsen University Hospital. Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
