Woman Wielding Knives Attacks Passersby in Times Square: Bank of America Executive Killed

In New York's Times Square, a woman armed with two large knives attacked two passersby. According to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch, a 32-year-old Bank of America employee was killed, while the attacker was shot dead by police at the scene.

Police say 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros first attacked a 68-year-old man, stabbing him in the abdomen — he suffered a stab wound but remains in stable condition. About 20 seconds later, the woman attacked 32-year-old Kylie Piacentiu, who later died of her injuries in hospital.

Police Spent Several Minutes Trying to Stop the Attacker

After the attack, officers spent several minutes trying to persuade the woman to drop the knives. A stun gun was used but failed to stop her. When Cisneros advanced on police with the knives still in her hands, officers opened fire. The attacker later died in hospital.

Authorities say Cisneros had a long history of mental health problems. Police have so far found no signs of a terrorist motive and have preliminarily described the attack as random and unprovoked. The investigation is ongoing.

Who the Victim Was

Bank of America is one of the largest banks in the United States, serving nearly 70 million customers. The victim, Kylie Piacentiu, headed the bank's department responsible for identifying and resolving potential conflicts of interest.

Piacentiu earned a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Pennsylvania in 2016, and five years later graduated from Fordham University School of Law.
