Chory taunts Sparta fans after derby win, picks up a yellow card for it

In the Prague derby between Sparta and Slavia, forward Tomáš Chorý couldn't resist a provocation right after the final whistle, riling up both his opponents and the home crowd. Referee Jan Machálek promptly booked the Czech international with a yellow card.

Chorý was never going to be a fan favourite at Sparta anyway: back in May, in the abandoned derby, he was sent off for elbowing Asger Sørensen. In the aftermath, club chairman Jaroslav Tvrdík declared that the striker would never again take the field against Sparta. Things turned out differently, though — Chorý served his ban and worked his way back into coach Jindřich Trpišovský's plans.

For this derby, Trpišovský opted to start with the more mobile Emmanuel Ayaosi and, above all, Adonis Uanda up front. It was Uanda who was withdrawn in the 65th minute, with Slavia already 2:0 up, to bring on Chorý — to a chorus of whistles and abuse from the home stands.

A provocation and beer cups flying onto the pitch

In the end, though, it was Chorý who got to celebrate. The moment referee Machálek blew the final whistle, he picked up the ball, tossed it into the air, turned to face the home end and raised his arms above his head.

The gesture didn't go unanswered — plastic beer cups came flying onto the pitch. Several Sparta players in red shirts — Tobias Guddal, Jonathan Bru­nes and Andrew Irving — went straight for Chorý. Defender Adam Šev­činský even sprinted over from the bench, despite not having played a single minute in the match.

Referee Machálek judged the Czech international's behaviour worthy of a yellow card. Chorý looked briefly surprised by the decision, then walked off with a smile and joined his teammates' celebrations.

He didn't score in the match and missed a decent chance, but he still found a way to celebrate. Whether it was called for is something every fan can decide for themselves.
