Dozens of Bikers Race Right Under Police Headquarters

Late one evening, dozens of motorcyclists staged a dangerous street race through Prague, including on Nusle Bridge and 5. května Street — just a stone's throw from the regional police headquarters. The incident took place around 10:30 p.m., according to police spokesman Richard Gerdina.

"We received a report about a group of motorcyclists who were endangering road safety on 5. května Street," he said. According to him, police stopped and checked around 15 bikers.

Chase at Gunpoint

One of the riders refused to comply with an order to stop and tried to flee from the police. He was only caught and stopped after officers threatened to use firearms, the police spokesman clarified. The case is now being treated as an offense of failing to comply with a lawful police order.

Footage of the incident also exists, filmed by a helmet-mounted camera worn by one of the bikers. The video shows that in some stretches, the riders drove in the oncoming lane and directly along tram tracks.

Bent License Plates and Wheelies

According to available information, some of the riders had deliberately bent their license plates so they couldn't be read by surveillance cameras, while others rode on their rear wheels. Police intend to classify some participants' actions as administrative offenses.

"We kept the column of motorcyclists under surveillance until they left the capital's territory," Gerdina added.
