Woman Shows Up at Polish Beach With Two Pythons Around Her Neck — Police Called In

Police in the Polish city of Łódź were called to a beach after a bystander reported a woman swimming with two snakes draped around her neck. The incident took place on Wednesday, August 5, at around 5 p.m., according to the Piotrków Trybunalski police press office.

The tip turned out to be accurate: officers arrived to find a 33-year-old resident of Piotrków Trybunalski at the beach with two royal pythons coiled around her neck. The woman told police she had acquired the exotic pets about six months earlier.

The Snakes Were Escorted Home

For the safety of both other beachgoers and the reptiles themselves, officers accompanied the woman back to her house, where the pythons were returned to their terrariums. But the story didn't end there.

A documents check revealed that the owner had never registered her exotic animals with the district authority, even though Polish law requires it. According to police, owners have 14 days from the moment they acquire such an animal to file a registration application.

What the Woman Now Faces

Under Poland's nature conservation law, failing to comply with this requirement can result in arrest or a fine. Police also reminded the public that owners of exotic animals are responsible for ensuring their pets pose no danger to others and don't cause unwarranted alarm.
